Most good players use an intermediate target as an alignment aid. An intermediate target is a leaf or blade of grass a few feet in front of the ball that is used to set the clubface.
Your goal is to set your bodylines (feet, Knees, Hips and Shoulders) so they are parallel and left of the target line.
Visualize a set of railroad tracks. Your feet, knees, hips and shoulders are on one side of the tracks and the clubhead and ball are on the opposite side of the tracks.
